Clownfish
under construction
All species are found in Indo-Pacific waters.  There are no known Atlantic/Caribbean species. Most clowns are tank raised and tank bred clowns breed hardily in captivity and is one of the most common "starter" fish for saltwater breeders. The average size of Clownfish in captivity is around three inches and come in many bright colors with a variety of stripes. They are an extremely hardy fish, making them a very popular addition to a novice tank. it is best to purchase them in small groups and introduce them to the tank at the same time because they are a bit semi-aggressive and territorial. Altho their diet consists of small crustaceans, plankton and algae, they are reefsafe. Best to feed small amounts several times a day. In a reef situation they don't really need to be fed very often at all. An interesting thing about the Clownfish is their co-habitation with sea anemones; living in 'symbiosis' with certain anemones, which means they live together with both the clownfish and the anemone benefiting from each other's company. Clownfish have a special mucus layer on them that prevents them from being stung, and allows them to hide among the tentacles of the anemone and avoid predators.
Clownfish can change from male into female. They start off male, but if the female dies the dominant male will change into a female. A non-dominant male will then become the dominant male. Tank raised clownfish are easy to breed in the home aquarium.
Black & White Percula Clownfish (Amphiprion percula var.) Can be kept alone or in small groups with anemone. A very hardy fish, this is perfect for the novist. Easy to breed and get along with other clowns if introduced to the tank at the same time. Also reefsafe. These fish require both meaty foods as well as some greens in their diet.
